A year of Editor Spotlight 2024: Editorial board experience
As 2024 is coming to an end, we take a look at what our Academic Editors said about being on the PLOS One Editorial Board.
Serving as an editor allows me to contribute to the academic community by promoting high-quality research and advancing knowledge in social sciences. Serving as an editor is a good way to establish connections with a diverse array of scholars.
One of my early experiences was submitting a manuscript from my Ph.D. research to PLOS One. I was impressed with the timely and constructive peer-review process as well as the visibility that the paper received once published. That experience determined me to continue to contribute to PLOS One as author of new manuscripts and as reviewer.
Among the many commendable aspects of PLOS One, the broad spectrum of topics published, the high standards set for publications, and the emphasis on the fair sharing of data, which are integral to PLOS One criterion and fundamental to scientific integrity, are my primary motivations for contributing to the journal.
Through my role as an Academic Editor, I gain writing skills, how to give good feedback to others, and learn about the type of manuscript that may be submitted to journals.
I see PLOS One as a powerful instrument for advancing gender equality and overall well-being. PLOS’ commitment to open access publishing ensures vital reach of the scientific work. This empowers policymakers, practitioners, and the public with the knowledge to create more equitable and effective mental healthcare systems.
