Join an experiment – try our new email-table-of-contents alerts by subject

Here at PLoS ONE we pride ourselves on using technology to try and make life just that bit easier for our audience. A few weeks ago we re-organized our main table of contents (eToC) email (which goes out once a week, and contains all publications for that week), but a  few of you have also been asking us to provide topic-level alerts, to help you navigate more quickly to the articles that you need in your discipline.

We  believe that we’ve found a solution in a tool called Feedblitz which turns blogs and RSS feeds into e-newsletters.  We’re already using this tool to convert this blog into an e-newsletter and if you look in the top right hand corner of this blog you can sign up (to the blog newsletter).

Using Feedblitz, we’ve created an e-newsletter in the topic of Oncology that will provide subscribers with the latest content delivered via email, updated every time we publish something new in that field (for the technically inclined, we are using our RSS feed for Oncology, to generate these alerts and as a result, an advantage of this method is that alerts are generated daily, as opposed to weekly). It’s important that we acknowledge that we may not continue this experiment if you don’t like it (or if it just doesnt work out for some reason). If we make that decision, we will write and let you know but we are very hopeful that the reverse will occur and that we will quickly expand this program to all our different topic areas.
