PLoS Reader 2.0
Earlier this year, we launched PLoS Reader, an innovative iPad application that allows you to read all of our content with the touch of a button. Now, we are pleased to announce that PLoS Reader has been upgraded to include search (thanks to further work by the developer, Tom Brow).
Tom created PLoS Reader and since its successful launch – it’s been downloaded over 13,000 times and made it to the “What’s Hot” section of the iTunes store – he’s been working hard to improve the app’s functionality. His updated version now allows users to search the entire PLoS database and access all of our Open Access content. In order to facilitate this upgrade, Tom worked with DeepDyve (a third party company who also indexes our content), to power the iPad search using their database. This is a powerful example of how providing content for anyone to re-use can create opportunities for people to find new and innovative uses for that content.
So, if you haven’t already, I recommend that you download PLoS Reader from the iTunes App Store and if you already have it – be sure to update! The main features of the improved app are:
- Free to download the App and free to read and download any of our content
- Gain RSS access to a list of the most recent content per journal
- Additionally, Search the entire back content of all the titles
- Read in landscape or portrait mode
- Save PDFs of articles for future reading
- Email articles to a friend
